Wawa Breaks Ground On Stores In Indiana, Ohio

Wawa has broken ground on two stores – one at 3835 East 96th St. in Indianapolis, Indiana, and another at 5308 Fields Ertel Road in Cincinnati, Ohio. These locations are the first sites planned for these states.

“We are excited to begin construction [in Indiana and Ohio] as we get closer to bringing the unique Wawa experience to new customers in more markets,” said Joe Collins, director of store operations. “We look forward to continuing to spread our wings … and can’t wait to get started serving our new friends and neighbors.”

Wawa growth and expansion

Wawa will begin construction on the following Ohio stores in 2024, with projected openings in the second quarter 2025:

  • 5308 Fields Ertel Road in Cincinnati;
  • 7198 Cincinnati Dayton Road in Liberty Township;
  • 4577 Dixie Highway in Fairfield;
  • 5248 Courseview Drive in Mason; and
  • 370 Glensprings Drive in Cincinnati.

In 2025, Wawa plans to open 11 stores in Ohio. Over the next five to eight years, Wawa plans to build and open six-10 stores per year in Ohio, with plans to open up to 60 stores in the state. Wawa currently has more than 20 sites under contract across Ohio counties. In addition, Wawa plans to break ground on its first store in the Dayton, Ohio, market this summer with the date and location to be announced soon.

Wawa will begin construction on these Indiana stores in 2024, with projected openings in the second quarter 2025:

  • 3835 East 96th St. in Indianapolis;
  • 5550 West 86th St. in Indianapolis;
  • 2701 Westfield Road in Noblesville;
  • 8 West 176th St. in Westfield;
  • 60 East Garner Road in Brownsburg;
  • 5957 West U.S. Highway 40 in Cumberland; and
  • 1354 Veterans Pkwy. in Clarksville (Louisville market).

In 2025, Wawa plans to open 10 stores in Indiana. Over the next five to eight years, Wawa plans to build and open eight-12 stores per year in Indiana with plans to open up to 60 stores. Wawa currently has more than 23 sites under contract across several Indiana counties.

Community donations

As part of the groundbreaking, Wawa and The Wawa Foundation made several contributions to local community partners. Gleaners Food Bank received a $10,000 grant from The Wawa Foundation Fly Beyond Fund, an initiative to fight food insecurity and support programs providing nutritious food to build healthy habits.

“The Wawa Foundation is thrilled to provide grants to our food bank partners toward programs providing consistent access to nutritious and healthy meals for kids,” said Elizabeth Simeone, president of The Wawa Foundation. “We are very excited to begin to share our Fly Beyond mission with our newest food bank partners in the Midwest as we begin our expansion to these new markets.”
