Kobey Harris, a courtesy clerk at the Food City in Powell, took top honors at the annual Tennessee’s Best Bagger competition May 16, edging six other contestants from across the Volunteer State for the trophy.

The event is part of the Tennessee Grocers & Convenience Store Association’s annual convention. As state champion, Harris is eligible to represent Tennessee at the national event during the National Grocers Association’s 2025 show in Las Vegas.

In addition to a claim on statewide “bagging rights,” Kobey received a $1,750 TGCSA scholarship and a $250 NGA scholarship.

“I am proud to have won this contest and am excited about the chance to compete at Nationals,” Harris said.

A rising sophomore at the University of Tennessee, he said he would apply the scholarship money to college.

The contestants were rated on speed, bag-building technique, weight distribution between bags, style, attitude and appearance.

“I am so proud of Kobey and all of our contestants”, said Rob Ikard, president. “These competitors represent the best things about the food retail industry – quality, efficiency and excellent customer service.”
