Jimbo’s is celebrating its 40th anniversary in July, commemorating four decades of providing high-quality organic and natural foods to the San Diego, California, community.

Established in 1984 by Jim “Jimbo” Someck, Jimbo’s has been a pioneer in the industry, dedicated to promoting healthy living, environmental stewardship and supporting local and sustainable brands.

“We are honored to celebrate 40 years with the San Diego community,” Someck said. “It is hard for me to realize that it has been 40 years, and I thank all of you for being a part of this journey which has allowed us to grow and thrive – together.

“I hope that Jimbo’s has helped shape the food landscape in San Diego by providing the highest quality organic foods and by supporting local, sustainable brands while being stewards of our environment. I have been truly blessed with the support of our loyal customers, dedicated staff members and my incredible family. I cannot thank everyone enough for helping make Jimbo’s a success.”

To mark the milestone, Jimbo’s is partnering with Healthy Day Partners to plant fruit trees in underserved areas of San Diego. From July 1-14, Jimbo’s will host a fundraiser with the goal of raising enough donations to plant 40 fruit trees. In addition, Jimbo’s will match funds to plant up to an additional 40 trees.

These trees will eventually nourish families, increase access to healthy food and provide seasonal harvests in addition to sequestering carbon from the atmosphere.

Throughout July, Jimbo’s will enhance its Wooden Nickel Program, doubling the donation from 5 cents to 10 cents for customers who reuse bags. This program supports local charities and encourages customers to use reusable bags, promoting sustainability and community support.

Charity partners for this initiative include Home Start, Words Alive, Solana Center for Environmental Innovation and FACE Foundation.

From July 12-14, Jimbo’s will celebrate its 40th anniversary by offering shoppers discounts in-store on its selection of organic, non-GMO and locally sourced foods.

Jimbo’s has a long-standing commitment to supporting local organic farms and businesses, and many local farmers and products have grown alongside Jimbo’s over the years. The store adheres to a strict set of 26 guidelines, including no white sugar, no harmful chemicals or preservatives, and organic ingredients whenever possible.

As a central gathering place in the community, Jimbo’s stores offer more than just shopping; they provide spaces for connection through store events, kids’ club benefits, vendor and farmer demos, and dining areas. Jimbo’s dedication extends to schools, environmental groups, and charities, fostering a supportive and passionate environment for both customers and employees.

With four locations throughout San Diego County – Carmel Valley, Escondido, Carlsbad and 4S Ranch – Jimbo’s remains a trusted destination for organic and all-natural foods, as well as a leader in sustainable practices.
