The Giant Co. Donates Food, School Supplies For Students

The Giant Company bag donation to Boys & Girls Club of Washington County

In honor of its 100th anniversary and the start of a new school year, Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based The Giant Co. is donating 10,000 bags of food, hygiene products and school supplies to help students.

Over the next two weeks, Giant and Martin’s employees will work with 36 local organizations to pack and distribute bags, providing kids with weekend meals and supplies.

“The Giant Co. believes everyone – especially our youngest minds – deserve access to food to reach their fullest potential, which is why we continue to take actionable steps to help eliminate hunger in our local communities,” said Jessica Groves, manager of community impact.

“Research shows children have a hard time focusing on academics when they are hungry, so we are doing our part to help kids go back to school with the food and supplies they need to begin the school year with a fresh start.”

Each bag includes non-perishable food items, as well as supplies such as a notebook, pencils, crayons and glue sticks. They also contain personal hygiene items, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, laundry detergent and deodorant.

“We are so grateful for The Giant Co.’s bag donation,” said EJ Fuller, director of the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County

“The bags will help kids start the school year with confidence. Boys and Girls Club kids will greatly benefit from the donation and lessen the stress for their parents during back-to-school preparations and for that, we are thankful.”

Founded in 1923, The Giant Co. has more than 35,000 employees supporting 193 stores, 132 pharmacies, 107 fuel stations and more than 180 online pickup hubs and grocery delivery service across Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia and West Virginia.

A company of Ahold Delhaize USA, Giant’s family of brands also includes Giant Heirloom Market, Giant Direct and Martin’s Direct.
