H-E-B Receives AAHP Integrative Medicine Retailer Award

H-E-B

The American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists has named San Antonio, Texas-based H-E-B as the 2022 recipient of its Integrative Medicine Retailer Award.

This honor recognizes a retailer organization or retailer executive that promotes and sells products that encompass a broad range of therapeutic approaches to achieve optimal health and wellness for consumers.

Accepting the award on behalf of H-E-B was Mike Schaeffer, director of drug store, during a Sept. 29 reception. Sponsored by The Emerson Group, it took place at the Union League of Philadelphia in conjunction with the Natural Products Expo East.

“AAHP recognizes H-E-B’s dedication to provide consumers with a wide choice of healthy products and services,” said Mark Land, AAHP president. “Through their many initiatives, including the Healthy Living Department, consumers have better access to healthier offerings to care for the health of themselves and their families.”

The retailer has many programs to help consumers navigate their health journeys. Some locations offer registered dietitians and culinary experts onsite, telehealth nutrition services and shoppers can speak to pharmacists when picking up their prescriptions.

Additionally, at five locations in Austin, Houston and San Antonio, H-E-B has Wellness Primary Care Clinics with board-certified doctors and registered dietitians. In addition to primary care services and health/nutrition coaching, H-E-B Wellness Primary Care Clinics offer services such as physical therapy, clinical pharmacists, specialty referrals and labs to create a coordinated approach to healthcare.

The retailer promotes local products made in Texas, donates to many community causes and invests in a variety of environmental efforts.

This is the fourth annual event for AAHP. The inaugural Integrative Medicine Retailer Award was accepted on behalf of Wegman’s Food Markets by Karen Shadders, VP of health and wellbeing, in 2019, followed by Derrick Shaffer, director of OTC and vitamins at Rite Aid Corporation in 2020, and Jenn Martin, VP of merchandising for health, beauty, baby center, card and party at Meijer in 2021.

“In bringing together homeopathic manufacturers, retailers, experts in the field and professionals from adjacent associations, the AAHP Industry Reception highlights opportunities and challenges that we can all work through together,” Land said.
