H-E-B

H-E-B will celebrate Earth Day with its annual reusable bag give away, which provides 250,000 custom-designed reusable bags to customers across Texas. Beginning April 22, customers who visit any H-E-B, Central Market, Joe V’s Smart Shop or Mi Tienda store in Texas are eligible to receive a complimentary Earth Day bag, while supplies last.

The bags feature art designed by an H-E-B employee and are made from recycled plastic bottles.

Since 2008, H-E-B has given out nearly three million reusable bags in celebration of Earth Day.

Customers can purchase additional Earth Day reusable bags for $1.50. This year’s Earth Day tote was designed by Julia Rojas, a 13-year H-E-B employee from San Antonio who has designed art for the commemorative bag in previous years.  The McAllen-native’s design, For the Love of Texas, features an intricate illustration showcasing several native plant and animal species.

Many H-E-B employees celebrate Earth Day by volunteering at outdoor events, tree plantings and community cleanups. H-E-B stores across the state also will host in-store events to celebrate Earth Day with their customers and communities.

Additionally, stores will host in-store Environmental Education Scavenger Hunt in partnership with EcoRise. The scavenger hunts are fun, self-guided tours through H-E-B stores, showing elementary age children ways H-E-B works to protect the environment and how they can adopt sustainable practices. The scavenger hunt information can be found here and printed versions will be available in stores.

H-E-B stores also also have teamed with more than 150 schools across the state to hold a recycling contest to see who can collect the most plastic bags. Winners will be announced in early May.
