H-E-B Leaders Participate In Day Of Service For Local Nonprofits

H-E-B leaders from the North West Food and Drug region gathered in Plano, Texas to participate in a Day of Service and give hands-on support to a local nonprofit, Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

The H-E-B leadership team met at Plano’s Grace Church, located at 3301 Preston Road, on March 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help construct new bunk beds for the Fort Worth chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

The organization is made up of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering bunk beds to children and families in need. The nonprofit, which has the motto, “No child sleeps on the floor in our town,” has more than 200 chapters nationwide along with several local chapters in North Texas. Sleep in Heavenly Peace believes that a bed is necessary for the proper physical, emotional and mental support each child needs.

“We have a passion and commitment to help every community we serve,” said Juan-Carlos Rück, H-E-B EVP of North West Food Drug. “Volunteerism and philanthropy are woven into the fabric of who we are at H-E-B. We support many organizations across the state dedicated to fighting hunger, public education, supporting our military and more. We were intrigued to learn of this unique organization here in North Texas helping to meet a basic and vital need of children – a comfortable bed of their own. We look forward to our entry into North Texas and serving more outstanding organizations like this one in the future.”

As a part of the company’s groundbreaking ceremonies in Frisco, Plano and McKinney, H-E-B made gifts of $50,000 to nonprofits in each of three communities. Known as the H-E-B Spirit of Giving, the philosophy is an integral part of everyday business at H-E-B.

Each year, H-E-B donates 5 percent of pre-tax annual earnings to charitable organizations that focus on hunger relief, education, health, environmental sustainability, military and diversity initiatives. In addition, H-E-B partners dedicate thousands of volunteer hours to “roll up your sleeves” initiatives like this one with Sleep in Heavenly Peace and many other organizations across the state.

“It’s exciting to have a business known for its generosity and altruism already jumping in to serve our communities before even opening its doors to customers,” said Bruce Crenshaw, Fort Worth chapter president of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. “H-E-B is an incredible community partner, and we look forward to many more partnerships like this one.”
