World Peas Brand Peatos, a division of Snack it Forward, announced Wednesday that its trademark-related disputes with Frito-Lay have been amicably resolved.

“We would like to commend Frito-Lay on its cooperative attitude toward reaching a resolution that works for both parties,” said Nick Desai, CEO of World Peas Brand in Los Angeles. “This battle will be fought where it should be: in the aisle of supermarkets and the hearts and minds of consumers—not in the courts. This is a great time for all companies that challenge the status quo.”

“The settlement is a result of the rapidly growing upstart challenging the entire junk snack industry with something that sounds too good to be true: junk food with better nutrition,” World Peas Brand said.

Peatos is a crunchy puffed snack with 4g of protein and 3g of fiber per serving. Made with non-GMO ingredients, no artificial flavors, no synthetic colors and no added MSG, Peatos is merchandised in the produce department due to its high plant-based protein content.

Peatos is World Peas Brand’s first snack and has twice the protein and three times the fiber of Frito-Lay’s Cheetos per serving. World Peas Brand replaces the traditional base such as corn and potatoes, used in salty snacks with pulses like peas and lentils to deliver what the company calls “a better flexitarian snack.”

World Peas Brand said it is “working to bridge the gap between taste and delivering better nutrition and clean ingredients like never before.”

Peatos were launched in late 2017.

“The makers of Peatos aim to help 90 percent of consumers eat 10 percent better, not the 10 percent that eat 90 percent better by shopping at natural food channels,” said a statement from the company.
