Stater Bros. Charities and PGA Tour professional Dave Stockton raised more than $110,000 in the 12th annual Stater Bros. Charities Jack H. Brown Heroes Challenge Golf Tournament.
The annual golf tournament is named after Stater Bros. late Executive Chairman Jack H. Brown and celebrates Brown’s legacy of honoring American servicemembers and veterans. It was held March 11 at Redlands Country Club.
“Jack always believed in doing the right thing for the right reason. This tournament ensures his legacy lives on.” Nancy Negrette, chairman and president of Stater Bros. Charities, said. “Stater Bros. Charities is proud to highlight and support organizations dedicated to furthering education opportunities in our local communities.”
Stater Bros. Charities donated more than $110,000 to local nonprofit organizations serving veterans and education initiatives. Recipient organizations include the Congressional Medal of Honor Society ($50,000), California Highway Patrol Explorer Program ($15,000), Redlands Emergency Services Academy ($15,000), The Wildlands Conservancy Oak Glen Preserve Outdoor Discovery Program ($15,000) and Veterans Transition Support ($15,000).
Eight Medal of Honor recipients attended the event. The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. The Medal of Honor recipients in attendance included Harvey C. “Barney” Barnum, Jr., Patrick H. Brady, Drew D. Dix, Robert J. Modrzejewski, Robert M. Patterson, Ronald E. Ray, James A. Taylor and Salvatore A. Giunta.
Dave Stockton is PGA and Champions Tour golf professional. Since turning professional in 1964, he’s earned 25 wins, including five majors. Attending the event were 17 golf professionals, including John Cook, Donna Caponi-Byrnes, Tom Kite, Craig Stadler, and Lee Trevino.
