Tahlequah, Oklahoma-based Reasor’s is reporting a record-breaking year for its Stuff the Bus campaign. More than $41,000 was donated to the initiative, surpassing last year’s total by $15,000.

The grocer’s Stuff the Bus campaign gives the community an opportunity to donate school supplies for local students in need. Reasor’s teamed up with Tulsa’s Fox23 and My41 to help prepare students returning for the 2016-17 school year. Those who donated to this year’s campaign dropped off new school supplies at Reasor’s locations July 27-Aug. 16; there also was an option to purchase a donation card. Reasor’s again this year offered its customers the opportunity to purchase pre-made sacks with the most needed school supplies for $10, which included a 14 percent savings from regular retail.

A total of $11,361 was collected from the donation cards, which were sold at the cashier stands at Reasor’s stores; these collected funds are being used to purchase additional school supplies. There were 2,980 pre-made sacks filled with the most needed supplies purchased and placed in Reasor’s donation bins. Additionally, Tulsa Federal Credit Union, located in five of the company’s stores, matched donations from Aug. 9-14 totaling $1,332.

“We’re proud to be part of such a generous community,” Reasor’s says. “With the recent budget cuts in education, these donations will help many children and schools this year.”
