Newport Avenue Market held its annual Go Golf Tournament on Wednesday, July 20, bringing together more than 120 golfers to benefit the Hunger Prevention Coalition (HPC) of Central Oregon.

Community members as well as leaders from the grocery and retail industry participated in the event held at Broken Top Golf Club in Bend, Oregon.

Formerly known as Rude Rudy’s golf tournament, which began 32 years ago to show Newport Avenue Market’s appreciation for its vendors, the event has evolved into one of the region’s largest charitable golf tournaments. Since becoming a charity event in 2007, Go Golf has raised $342,000 to provide meals for community members in need. This year’s fundraising goal was $40,000, and 100 percent of proceeds will go directly to the Hunger Prevention Coalition of Central Oregon.

“After becoming a 100 percent employee-owned store last September, it has become not only the mission of our family but now the mission of our employees to continue to do our part when and where we can in our community with the belief that every person, regardless of circumstance, deserves a meal,” said Lauren Johnson, CEO. “We couldn’t contribute to the Hunger Prevention Coalition of Central Oregon without the support of our vendors and industry partners that choose to participate in this day of fun for a worthy cause.”
