Gregg’s Restaurants & Pubs, with four locations in Warwick, Providence, East Providence and North Kingstown, Rhode Island, has opened Warwick Tavern, located adjacent to Gregg’s Restaurant at 1359 Post Road. The Tavern is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to midnight.
The 2,400-s.f., ground-up restaurant was completely designed, constructed and outfitted by Rhode Island companies and artisans.
More than 50 local vendors were part of the team that built the new Tavern. Rhode Island artist Vanessa Piche was commissioned to paint an original work from a 1972 photo of the Warwick restaurant—the first Gregg’s location in Rhode Island. While the painting now resides in Gregg’s corporate headquarters, it was imprinted onto a 36” x 42” metal sheet by Blazing Editions of East Greenwich and hangs as the centerpiece in the bar area of the tavern. The piece features the addition of owners Bob and Bobbie Bacon’s favorite cars: Bob’s first car, a 1968 yellow Dodge Charger; Bobbie’s first car, a 1970 dark blue Pontiac GTO; Bob’s 1972 Yamaha 350 motorcycle; and a 1977 copper-colored Datsun 280Z, the first car the Bacons purchased together.
In addition, Diane Budrys, a longtime bookkeeper at Gregg’s, created an ornate piece of stained glass art. The 4’ x 6’ original hangs in the tavern’s dining room and was created on a reclaimed, original window from the Warwick Gregg’s restaurant that was removed during construction.
