Sheetz To Hire 8,000 Employees, And More…

On the heels of investing more than $15 million in 2016 to increase employee wages, Sheetz plans to hire more than 8,000 employees companywide. The initiative aims to increase the company’s total employee count and full-time positions by creating and filling jobs at stores throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina…

The New York Association of Convenience Stores (NYACS) has added a special wage workshop for its upcoming 2016 Trade Show. The panel will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Oncenter in Syracuse, New York. “State of High Wages: C-Store Survival in an Era of Mushrooming Labor Costs” will explore options available to convenience store operators to cope with the next wave of minimum wage increases in New York State. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York Legislature recently approved increasing the state minimum wage to $15 an hour in New York City by the end of 2018 and on Long Island and in Westchester County by the end of 2021, and to $12.50 an hour in the rest of the state by the end of 2020, with indexing to inflation thereafter until it reaches $15. The three panelists—Fran Duskiewicz of FS Dusk Consulting; Peter Tamburro of Clifford Fuel Co.; and single-store operator David Vincent of Countryside Marts—will examine hypothetical convenience store businesses and suggest where they might adjust staffing, operating hours, pricing or take other steps to contain costs or maximize revenues to offset rising payroll expenses…

Snack manufacturers Snyder’s of Hanover and Lance are joining forces to support Celiac Disease Foundation (CDF). During Celiac Awareness Month in May, all Snyder’s of Hanover gluten-free pretzels and Lance gluten-free sandwich crackers and cookies will prominently display the CDF logo and information about celiac disease on their packaging. The two snack makers also are making a donation to support CDF’s mission.
