Ingles Markets said late Friday that longtime leader Jim Lanning has been promoted to CEO. Robert P. Ingle II, who had served as the chief executive, will retain the board chairman title, which he has held since 2004, and continue his day-to-day active operational role in the executive leadership of the Asheville, North Carolina-based grocery chain.

Lanning joined Ingles as a student in 1975 and has served as president of the company since 2003. As CEO and president, he will continue his leadership role within the company.

“Jim has shown outstanding leadership qualities as president for the past 13 years. I am proud at this time to expand his role for the company’s future growth, flexibility and development,” said Ingle.

Ingles Markets operates 202 supermarkets across the Southeast.
