US Foods is acquiring Cara Donna Provision Co., a wholesale distributor of food and food-related products to restaurants and foodservice customers throughout New England. The transaction is expected to close March 4.

Family owned for three generations, Cara Donna serves approximately 1,300 customers in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Maine and Connecticut.

The Cara Donna location in Braintree, Massachusetts, will remain open through the summer to ensure a smooth transition, after which the business will shift to the US Foods location in Seabrook, New Hampshire, and Norwich, Connecticut.

“We see many similarities between US Foods and Cara Donna, most important of which is the hunger for bringing value to its customers,” said Joe Cara Donna III, EVP at Cara Donna. “With the size and scale of the company, our customers will now have access to additional products and business solutions.”

US Foods is a national foodservice distributor serving chefs and foodservice operators across the country. Its customers include independent and multi-unit restaurants, healthcare and hospitality entities as well as government and educational institutions. The company employs approximately 25,000 people in 61 locations nationwide.
