Federal Mediators To Aid In Talks Between Stop & Shop And Union, And More…

On Feb. 29 and March 1, Stop & Shop met and continued to negotiate with the five United Food and Commercial Workers local unions that represent associates in the company’s New England stores. According to Stop & Shop, while progress since the weekend has been made toward reaching a new agreement, the company welcomes the participation of federal mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service at the request of the unions. Bethany Berger of Shaw’s Supermarket in Vermont placed second and won $5,000 in the National Grocers Association National Best Bagger Contest, held during The NGA Show this week in Las Vegas. Janessa Plummer of Plummer’s Shop n Save in Maine placed fourth and won $1,000. The winner was Candice Lastimado of Metropolitan Market in Seattle, Washington, who defeated 24 other baggers to claim a grand prize of $10,000…

The Connecticut Food Association Hall of Fame event is planned for Thursday, April 14, at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. This year’s event will honor Ralph Crowley Jr., CEO and president of Polar Beverages. The event gets under way at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception.
