Aldi Expanding In Massachusetts, And More…

Discount grocer Aldi is expanding in Massachusetts and will open its 11th store in the Bay State this summer in Plymouth at Colony Place. The chain is known for its smaller-footprint stores, averaging 17,000 s.f., and an inventory that is 90 percent Aldi branded products. Aldi charges for plastic and paper bags and also operates a cart deposit system whereby shoppers pay 25 cents for a cart and get the quarter back when they return the cart. Aldi USA operates nearly 1,500 stores in 32 states and plans to have 2,000 stores by the end of 2018…

Perdue is moving “No Antibiotics Ever” protein into mainstream grocery categories and foodservice menu items with the rapid transition of its entire frozen, refrigerated and fresh value-added chicken products and all of its foodservice turkey. According to Perdue officials, the current transition will make Perdue the first major brand to convert all of its value-added chicken products to No Antibiotics Ever in every category—fresh, refrigerated and frozen. Products are hitting shelves, with the conversion continuing through May. Perdue is distributing those products coast to coast…

The Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association (MGFPA) will host a “Food For Thought” Forum on March 29 at the Bangor Savings Bank Conference Center in Augusta, Maine, from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Agenda items include a morning session on new meat grinding regulations and a roundtable discussion on GMO labeling, minimum wage, sales taxes and the MGFPA strategic plan.
