Dole Plant In Ohio Linked To Listeria Outbreak, And More…

Since September 2015, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has been collaborating with public health officials in several states and the U.S.  Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate a multistate outbreak of Listeria. Twelve people infected with the outbreak strain of Listeria have been reported from six states since July 5, 2015. Laboratory evidence available to date indicate that packaged salads produced at the Dole processing facility in Springfield, Ohio, and sold under various brand names are the likely source of this outbreak. Although the investigation began in September 2015, the source of these illnesses wasn’t known until January, when the laboratory result from the packaged salad collected in Ohio linked the illnesses to the Springfield plant. On Jan. 21, Dole reported to CDC that it had stopped all production at the facility and that it is withdrawing all packaged salads currently on the market that were produced at this facility…

Rite Aid Corp. has set Feb. 4 for a special meeting of its stockholders to vote on the proposed merger between Rite Aid and Walgreens Boots Alliance. The merger, which is expected to close by the second half of calendar 2016, is subject to the approval of the merger agreement by Rite Aid’s stockholders and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions…

  • One wonders why this and ALL food processing facilities are not testing for Listeria regularly? Seems like a major failure in food safety procedure since food safety is always the #1 objective of food production.
