The New England Produce Council (NEPC) and Dole have donated $5,000 to the Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB). NEPC hosted a dinner meeting at the GBFB on Jan. 12 with Dole as the dinner sponsor. Anthony Sattler, NEPC president, and Neil Kessler, Northeast manager for Dole, presented a check to Catherine D’Amato, president/CEO of the GBFB. Many NEPC members representing all facets of the produce industry attended the meeting. The GBFB is the largest hunger relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. Judy Spires, executive chair of the board of directors of Kings Food Markets, will be elected for a third term as chair of the New Jersey Food Council, which will host its annual membership meeting Jan. 28 at the Forsgate Country Club, Monroe Township, New Jersey, starting at 5:30 p.m. …
E-grocer Fresh Direct is offering a new service, “FoodKick,” providing fresh food and alcohol delivery within an hour. FoodKick will curate and rotate new food finds and solutions for the on-demand consumer, including meals, fresh produce, meat, seafood and specialty items, food and alcohol pairings, pantry staples and home essentials. An in-house culinary team will prepare made-to-order sushi, meat and seafood. FoodKick will join FreshDirect’s residential and office businesses and will initially serve customers in Brooklyn neighborhoods as well as Long Island City.
