The National Grocers Association (NGA) has recognized Lorelei Mottese with NGA’s highest award for government relations, the Clarence G. Adamy Great American Award. The award was presented to Mottese by NGA President and CEO Peter J. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker was the keynote speaker at the Massachusetts Food Association’s (MFA) annual meeting Oct. 28, which was attended by several hundred trade members. In his speech, Baker said, in addition to working on snow emergency and transportation problems, he is working to quicken the lines at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles and streamline regulations and procedures. He remained noncommittal about the prescriptive scheduling ballot question, which asks operators to plan schedules weeks in advance or risk paying employees extra money for any adjustments after the schedule is made. The MFA also inducted Jack and Kevin Kavanagh, two well-known brokers and food trade members, into the MFA Hall of Fame as well Bob Hogan, former representative of Wonder Bread and Hostess (posthumously). Roche Bros. was awarded the seventh annual Community Service Award.
