New York Orders Four Papa John’s Franchisees To Pay Back Wages, And More…

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and the U.S. Department of Labor have announced four settlements totaling nearly $500,000 with three current Papa John’s Pizza franchisees and one former franchisee, who together operated a total of nine restaurants in Queens, The Bronx and Brooklyn. The franchisees investigated by the Attorney General and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division admitted to a number of labor violations, including minimum wage, overtime and other basic labor law protections. The employees underpaid by franchises announced in the settlements worked in several neighborhoods across Queens, as well as in neighborhoods in Brooklyn and The Bronx…

The Rhode Island Hospitality Association recently awarded nearly $6,000 to two local schools to assist in launching their ProStart culinary programs. ProStart is a nationwide, two-year high school program developed by the National Restaurant Association that unites the classroom and industry to develop future restaurant and food service leaders. The grants were provided to the Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center and the East Providence Area Career and Technical Center. The Woonsocket Center received $2,937.70 and the East Providence Center received $2,977.75…
