Walmart Names Food Exec As Chief Merchandising Officer, And More…

Walmart U.S. has appointed Steve Bratspies as its chief merchandising officer for U.S. stores, effective Oct. 19. Bratspies will oversee all merchandise categories across more than 4,500 stores in the U.S. business. Most recently, Bratspies served as EVP of food for Walmart U.S. where he overhauled the retailer’s grocery aisles with a focus on improving its fresh offering and expanding its private brand and global sourcing capabilities. Walmart also has appointed Charles Redfield as EVP of food for Walmart U.S. Redfield joined Sam’s Club in 1988 as a cashier and moved up the ranks. Most recently, Redfield served as EVP of merchandising at Sam’s Club. In addition, John Furner will serve as EVP of merchandising for Sam’s Club. Furner was serving as chief merchandising and marketing officer at Walmart China…

Whole Foods Market is recalling cheese sold in all stores nationwide that came from its supplier because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria. The recalled cheese was cut and packaged in clear plastic wrap and sold with Whole Foods Market scale labels. Whole Foods decided to recall the cheese after routine sampling conducted by the FDA found Listeria in a whole, uncut wheel of the cheese. The Papillion Organic Roquefort cheese product can be identified by the scale label that begins with PLU 029536. All sell-by dates are affected.
