Last updated on June 13th, 2024 at 11:53 am

Thomasville, Ga.-based Flowers Foods announced July 23 that it has acquired Lepage Bakeries of Auburn, Maine.

For fiscal 2011, Lepage had sales of $166 million from its three bakeries in New England.

The acquisition adds Lepage’s efficient operations and 100 years of baking tradition to the second largest producer of packaged bakery foods for retail and foodservice in the U.S. With Lepage, Flowers Foods will operate 44 bakeries, producing and distributing through an extensive direct-store-delivery network in the Southeast, mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Southwest regions, as well as select markets in California and Nevada.

Flowers Foods expects to provide additional information about the acquisition during its second quarter earnings conference call Aug. 14.
