Superlo Store to Fill Former Schnucks in Southaven, Miss.

Stepherson Inc. dba Superlo Foods is taking over the former Schnucks location in Southaven, Miss., on the Tennessee border.

The Memphis-based grocer has signed a lease for the property at 975 Goodman Rd. in the Southaven Commons shopping center, reports the Memphis Business Journal.

Schnucks vacated the 55,000-s.f. property in September after selling most of its assets to Kroger.

Superlo will be opening in the first quarter 2012 after Schnucks’ current lease runs out.

Southaven Commons LLC owns the property.

Shopping Center Group LLC partner Shawn Massey and broker Robert Sloan handles leasing at the center. Stepherson worked with Associated Wholesale Grocers to lease the property.

“This shows the strength of the Southaven trade area, that this well-located retail big box was quickly picked up,” Massey tells the Journal.

In the past 18 months, Circuit City, Linens & Things, World Market and Sportsman’s Warehouse spaces have been backfilled in Southaven.

Massey indicated that they have proposals out for another 24,000 s.f. of potential leased space in the Southaven Commons shopping center. Two national tenants were waiting on the final announcement of the Superlo deal, according to Massey.

In other news, Massey and Sloan also announced that UPS Store signed a 2,100-s.f. lease at The Shops of Hacks Cross adjacent to Lenny’s Sub Shop. Construction is under way and the store will open in February, according to the Journal.

There is 1,900 s.f. left in the center and Massey says there is another deal lined up for this week with a national tenant.
